Matching a food brand’s filing to its product range
A food business needed an application covering both its products and the way it sold them.
Client names and identifying details have been omitted. This account describes the work and stage stated below.
The business and background
The client supplied a range of grocery products and traded through retail and wholesale channels. Its brand was intended to identify both the goods and the services through which customers bought them. It instructed us to prepare and file a UK word-mark application. The background to the filing was therefore broader than choosing a single product class: the specification needed to distinguish the food range from retail, wholesale and online retail services.
The challenge
A product list alone would not describe the business’s retail and wholesale activities.
Our approach
We used the business’s range to prepare a specification across food goods and relevant retail, wholesale and online retail services. The client also received an explanation of examination, publication and the next stages.
Work and outcome
A UK word-mark application was filed. Filing is the completed stage described here; this study does not claim a registration outcome.
What this illustrates
The specification should reflect both what a business supplies and the services it provides under its brand.
